Ryan Adams - “Icy Monsters” (live) FUCKING AWESOME VERSION. 

This was the only Ryan Adams concert I’ve seen even though my parents have seen him a bajillion times… I’ve just been too young apparently, and I was into shitty music when he came into town before (ugh).

Anyway, my dad’s a professor, but in his spare time / nights he is a Taper Dude. Well, was. He is “too old” now and “doesn’t have time” and is “deaf” (he’s exaggerating). Party pooper. But he has recorded some great shows.. mostly alt-country, and in the alt-country hey-day of the 90s. But he recorded this one in ‘09. It’s Ryan Adams at the Missouri Theater in Columbia, MO. He did a Soundboard recording, so it’s pretty good quality (the absolute best is Soundboard + Audience matrix… which is near impossible to get and a hassel, but it can be done… I have a Spoon one actually). Anyway… Ryan fucking Adams had played a 3 hour set the night before I’d heard, so everyone was so psyched. But guess what? Some douchehat in the audience kept yelling “Damn Sam!” and Ryan Adams was getting pissed. I mean, EVERYONE knows Ryan Adams is touchy about that shit. You do not want to piss off Ryan Adams. But surprisingly he played Damn Sam for the first time in forever… which is weird because he NEVER does requests… but at a price apparently because he was so pissed that WELLL F Y’ALL he only played like an hour and 20 minute show. UGH. So mad. I mean, that’s a great chunk of music… especially in general… but for Ryan Adams?  That guy always plays at least 2 hours… he is friggin manic. Damn. We got shafted. But I guess the douchehat got Damn Sam, which the band didn’t even know. HOPE HE FUCKING ENJOYED.

But about the song I just posted.. THIS IS HOW HE STARTED THE SHOW, YOU GUYS. It was fucking awesome. We just sat there with our mouths open like, WHAT THE HELL IS THIS FUCKERY… WHO IS THIS MAN.  I mayyyy have pissed my pants.

It is so much different than the album version of Icy Monsters… and way better and more rocking. And have you guys ever realized how DIRTY this song is? GAWD Ryan. MANDY, wash dat boyz mouth out.

SO LISTEN AND WEEP. And hope he starts touring again in places other than California.

ps. My dad is torrent illiterate but he gave the FLAC and SHN files to his friend who is into that stuff… I think he uploaded the whole show to the Ryan Adams Archive or whatever it’s called. I promise it’s on there. Columbia, MO 2-26-09

I wasn’t that impressed with the whole show, except for a select few songs like this one.. but whatever, it’s a good recording.  I’ve heard better though. (‘01 when Ryan was high on painkillers and played the Star Wars theme song for example and rambled for 10 minutes between every 2 songs, haha hilarious… and he played for like 3 and a half hours)
